Care Instructions: How To Clean And Maintain Handwoven Brocade Products
🌏 Have you recently acquired a brocade scarf, a hand-woven bag, or a colorful, hand-woven backpack from Vietnam? These handcrafted brocade products not only hold cultural value but are also sustainable and unique fashion items. However, because they are made from natural fibers and entirely hand-woven, they require proper care to maintain their vibrant colors, softness, and durability over time.
Below is a detailed guide from us – the direct makers and sellers of these handcrafted brocade products.

1.Understanding Hand-Woven Brocade Fabrics
Our products are primarily woven from cotton, natural silk, or a blend of natural fibers. Each product features unique patterns and hand-dyed colors. Therefore:
• Not suitable for strong machine washing.
• Easily fades if exposed to strong sunlight or harsh chemicals.
• Avoid strong wringing or high-temperature drying.

2.How to clean handcrafted brocade products
Hand washing – The best method:
• Mix warm water (approximately 30-40°C) with a neutral soap (choose one for wool/silk or unscented baby soap).
• Soak the item for 5-10 minutes (do not soak for too long).
• Gently rub or scrub in the direction of the fabric weave, paying special attention to the straps of the bag or backpack.
• Rinse thoroughly with clean water until all soap suds are gone.
• Absolutely do not scrub vigorously or use a stiff brush.

When should you dry clean?
• For products with thick linings or large backpacks.
• When dealing with stubborn stains (ink, oil, wine, etc.).
Treating localized stains:
• Use a clean white cloth dampened with cold water and mild soap, gently patting the stain.
• Do not rub.
• Let it air dry.

3.How to air dry and air dry
• Dry in the shade, avoiding direct sunlight as strong sun will fade the natural dye.
• Hang straight or horizontally on a flat surface to maintain shape.
• Do not wring forcefully – gently press out excess water by hand or use a clean, dry towel to gently press down.
• Absolutely do not use a dryer.

4.How to iron (flatten) the product
• Turn the garment inside out.
• Use a low or medium heat setting (Silk/Wool setting).
• Place a thin cloth (clean cotton towel) over the garment while ironing to prevent shine.
• Do not iron directly over raised patterns.

5.Long-term preservation
• Storage: Fold or hang in a well-ventilated closet. Use a cotton cloth bag or cardboard box to prevent dust and dirt.
• Prevent mold: Place moisture-absorbing packets (silica gel) in the closet, especially if living in humid climates like Europe in winter or some eastern US states.
• Avoid light: Do not leave the product near a window in direct sunlight for extended periods.
• Natural fragrance: You can place dried lavender or cedarwood packets to maintain a fresh scent and repel insects.

✅ Tips for each product type:
• Brocade/embroidered scarves: Wash separately, dry easily, hang horizontally to dry.
• Handbags & Backpacks: Regularly wipe the inside, paying attention to the bottom and straps.
• Clothes: Wash after 2-3 wears to maintain shape.
⚠️ Important notes for use:
• Avoid contact with lotions, perfumes, and alcohol on the fabric surface.
• When traveling by plane, place the product in your carry-on luggage instead of checked baggage to avoid being compressed.
• If the product gets wet from rain, dry it immediately and air dry it in a well-ventilated area.

🤝 Proper care not only helps your handcrafted brocade products last longer but also preserves the cultural value and the story behind each thread. A bag or scarf that is cherished becomes even more meaningful.
