Guide to Caring for Seashell Jewelry & Decor to Keep It Looking Brand New for Years

🌴 You've just acquired a shimmering seashell jewelry piece or an exquisite seashell decor item. Products made from natural seashells not only bring the beauty of the sea into your living space but are also durable – if properly cared for. We've noticed that customers love the natural elegance of these products, but are also concerned about them fading or getting damaged over time.
This article will provide detailed, easy-to-follow instructions on how to care for seashell jewelry and decor so that they remain shiny, retain their original color and luster – even after 5-10 years of use.

1.Understanding the characteristics of seashells and snail shells is essential for proper care.
             • Seashells and snail shells are 100% natural materials (primarily calcium carbonate), and are very sensitive to:
              + Direct sunlight (causes fading)
+ High humidity (causes mold or cracking)
+ Acides and chemicals (perfumes, lotions, strong soaps)
              + Accumulated dirt over time
🌞 Therefore, the golden rule is: "Gentle - Dry - Avoid sunlight."

            2.Daily and periodic cleaning instructions
             • Daily cleaning (takes only 30 seconds):
+ Use a soft microfiber cloth or a clean cotton cloth to gently wipe the surface.
+ Wipe in the direction of the grain to avoid scratching.
+ Do not scrub vigorously, and do not use toilet paper or rough cloths.
             • Deep cleaning 1-2 times/year:
+ Prepare the solution: 1 drop of mild soap (baby or jewelry soap) + 1 cup of warm water.
+ Dip a soft cloth into the solution, wring it out thoroughly (do not soak the product directly).
+ Gently wipe the entire surface.
+ Wipe again immediately with a clean, dry cloth.
+ Allow to air dry in a well-ventilated area. DO NOT expose to sunlight or use a hairdryer.
           🌞 Important Note:
+ Absolutely do not soak seashell jewelry in water (leather cords, nylon cords, and adhesives may be damaged).
+ Do not use detergents, vinegar, lemon juice, baking soda, or any acids.
+ For large decorations (seashell lamps, seashell paintings, vases), wiping with a dry cloth is sufficient.

            3.Proper storage and preservation methods
             • With seashell jewelry (bracelets, necklaces, earrings, bangles):
+ Always remove them before showering, swimming, exercising, applying lotion or perfume.
+ Store them separately in a jewelry box lined with soft fabric or a linen pouch (avoid storing them with metal jewelry to prevent scratches).
+ Do not store them in the bathroom (high humidity).
+ If traveling: wrap each item in soft tissue paper and place it in a zip-lock bag.
             • With seashell and conch shell decor (table lamps, picture frames, storage boxes, hangers, etc.):
+ Place in a dry location, away from windows, balconies, or near air conditioners/heat-emitting appliances.
+ Avoid direct sunlight (use thin curtains if needed).
+ Every 3-6 months, remove the decor and thoroughly dust it (including the back).
+ If your home is humid (especially during the rainy season in Europe or coastal areas of the US), place a small dehumidifier nearby.

            4.Common mistakes to avoid
             • Avoid taking seashell jewelry to the beach → sea salt and sand will quickly tarnish it.
             • Using super glue or strong adhesive to repair it → will cause the shell to yellow.
             • Drying it in the sun after cleaning → the shell is prone to cracking and fading.
             • Stacking the decorations on top of each other → makes them easily broken or chipped.

5.Tips to keep your products looking young forever
             • Occasionally (1-2 times/year), apply a very thin layer of organic coconut oil to the surface (only unpainted surfaces) to enhance its natural shine.
             • If the product has a protective coating (some high-end models), simply wiping it dry is sufficient – no oil is needed.
             • Combine this with a dehumidifier to maintain humidity below 60%.

🌞 With these simple care instructions, our customers in the US (California, Florida, New York) and Europe (France, Germany, Italy) have reported that the product retains its shine and color after many years of use.
