How We Handcraft Each Buffalo Horn Piece – Step-by-Step
1.Step 1: Selection of Raw Buffalo
• It all starts with selecting buffalo horns. We only use buffalo horns sourced from farmers in Vietnam, where buffalo are raised using traditional methods. The horns must meet certain standards: long, thick, free from cracks and decay, and possessing a beautiful natural color (from deep black to shimmering golden-brown veins).
• Each horn is manually inspected by our chief artisan: we immediately discard any that show signs of being thin, weak, or exposed to chemicals. Only the purest horns are brought into the workshop. This is why our products never have an unpleasant odor and retain their natural color for many years.

2.Step 2: Thorough Cleaning & Deodorizing
• Raw horns are soaked in a natural herbal solution (without chemicals) for 48–72 hours to completely remove the outer layer and the fishy smell. Afterward, the horns are rinsed with rainwater and naturally dried in the sun for 3–5 days. This process ensures the horns are clean, antibacterial, and ready for subsequent processing steps.

3.Step 3: Cutting & Dividing the blocks according to each product.
• Depending on the product (combs, spoons, bracelets, trays, buttons, ornaments, etc.), artisans use hand saws and manual cutting machines to divide the horn into suitable blocks.
• Each cut is done with extreme care to maximize the use of the most beautiful horn grain. The leftover material after cutting (called "horn scraps") is not wasted – we use it to make buttons or small souvenirs.

4.Step 4: Soaking & Shaping
• This step requires the most experience and skill. The horns are soaked in hot water at about 80–90°C (or steam) to soften them. The artisans then bend them directly by hand using wooden or metal molds specifically designed for each model.
• Each product is hand-bent only once. If bent incorrectly, the process must be repeated. Therefore, the error rate at our workshop is less than 3%.

5.Step 5: Multi-stage Sanding
• After shaping, the product is hand-sanded using six different grit levels of sandpaper (from coarse P80 to ultra-fine P2000).
• The artisans use hand-rolled sandpaper, avoiding high-powered sanding machines to prevent overheating the horn and loss of its natural grain. This step takes 2–4 hours for each large item, resulting in a perfectly smooth, silky surface.

6.Step 6: Polishing & creating a natural shine
• We use a mixture of natural beeswax, coconut oil, and silk cloth for polishing. No PU paint or chemical varnish. As a result, the product retains the natural shine of the horn, is slightly translucent, and becomes even shinier with use over time.

7.Step 7: Hand-carving and Engraving
• For high-end products (combs, trays, bracelets), artisans will engrave traditional Vietnamese patterns (dragons, phoenixes, lotus flowers, bamboo, calligraphy, etc.) using hand-carving knives. Each engraving is unique; no two products are 100% identical.

8.Step 8: Final Quality Control & Packaging
• Each product is inspected by two artisans: checking for smoothness, gloss, horn grain, and overall finish. Only items that meet 100% of the standards are packaged in premium kraft boxes, accompanied by a "Handcrafted in Vietnam" certificate and care instructions in both English and Vietnamese.

✨ Why is this process important to US and European customers?
• Environmentally friendly: No chemicals, 100% recycled materials, no illegal exploitation.
• Unique: Each item is a one-of-a-kind handcrafted masterpiece.
• Sustainable: Products have a lifespan of 10–20 years if used properly.
• Cultural story: You're not just buying an item, you're bringing home a piece of the essence of Vietnamese craftsmanship.
